UPI Ljudska universa Žalec (People's university Žalec) is a public institution for adult and youth education. It was established in 1975 as the Workers' University of Žalec. In 1990, the Workers' University was renamed UPI Ljudska universa Žalec.

Constitutors of Ljudska universa Žalec are the municipalities of Braslovče, Prebold, Polzela, Tabor, Vransko, and Žalec, each with varying shares. The abbreviation UPI stands for training and continuing education (usposabljanje in permanentno izobraževanje).

With the expansion of educational programs, the number of employees has also increased, and today UPI Ljudska universa Žalec employs 15 people.

Adult education began in 1975, when the Workers' University of Žalec was established. At that time, the educational programs on offer focused on school education, socio-political education, professional and functional training, and general education. In the first year, 2080 participants enrolled in our educational programs. Just one year later, the number of participants had grown to more than 3600.

As the number of participants increased, so did the diversity of educational programs on offer. In 1979, we began offering language education for adults and expanded our range of professional and higher education programs, while reducing the share of socio-political education.

Our basic mission is to develop and promote a culture of lifelong learning in the local community and the wider region, which means that we want to offer and provide as wide a range of people as possible with the richest possible choice of different educational programs, courses, and workshops in both formal and informal education, as well as counseling services. We focus on various target groups of adults.

We are known for our friendliness, flexibility, adaptation to the needs of the local environment, and quality.

We have found that our participants are successful after completing their education thanks to the knowledge they have acquired with us.
