November 2024

A thing we were aware of from the very beginning was that for being able to integrate DigComp into our everyday work processes, we need our staff here at VHS Hannover be aware of what DigComp is. And not only this: our staff should have developed a well-founded attitude towards it. This could only be achieved through active work with the concept. Reading papers alone would not suffice. As adult educators we know that some of the best (and most lasting) learning results are achieved when learning takes places in a group, and when it involves discussion, and multipiple perspectives.

Therefore we planned, from the very beginning, to create a workshop concept for our staff on DigComp that would allow them to get familiar with the whole system through various forms of interaction. This could include:

  • An initial teacher presentation (anyway...)
  • Collection of experience with digital competences
  • What are digital competences anyway?
  • Is the term "digital" (versus "analogue") well chosen? Or does it lead in a wrong direction?
  • What is my experience with digital competences of our customers (= citizens who attend our various courses etc.)
  • Is DigComp the only way to approach digital competences systematically?
  • Which digital compentences are relevant for me, and for me learners?
  • Where in everyday life do people nowadays need digital competences?
  • How can paying attention to digital compenteces play a role in courses that are not "digital" on first glance?
