May 2024

In preparation of the Hannover meeting of the DigCompAE project, we summarize internally our ideas how we at VHS Hannover want to integrate the DigComp framework into our everday work. We have quite comprehensive plans: Digital competences shall be systematically taken into account in all processes of planning and delivering adult education courses.

  • Those who do the planning for the semester ahead (educational managers and teachers) should consider digital competences for all courses, including such that are not per se "digital". Hence, not only computer courses shall be considered but everything including language courses, cooking couses, and even yoga.
  • For all courses, the level of digital competences used in them shall be considered.
  • The level of digital competences for each cours shall be communicated clearly to all stakeholders: planners, teachers, and not least the learners (customers) who might book a course.
  • Both entry level and exit level shall be communicated. That's because for a certain course there might be certain requirements for participants regarding their computer skills (digital competences) in order to participate in the course. But then, during the course their skills might be trained, and they might leave the course with competences on a higher level than initially. This "exit" level should also be communicated.
  • We also hope that we can use the DigComp markup in our course database to help us identify needs for future courses; but this is a bit speculative, or it would be technically very demanding.
